Japan’s Softbank Corp has joined forces with NVIDIA on a platform for generative artificial intelligence and 5G/6G applications that Softbank aims to introduce at their new AI data centers in Japan.
The applications will be based on NVIDIA’s chip technology and Softbank plans to build data centers that is capable of hosting genAI and wireless applications on a multi-tenant common server platform which is reported to reduce costs and drive energy efficiency.
These new data centers are set to be strategically distributed across its network. With the ability to handle both AI and 5G workloads, these facilities will operate at peak capacity and is expected to deliver low latency.
The data center industry in Japan continuous to experience positive growth. CyrusOne recently collaborated with Kansai Electric Power Company (KEPCO) to develop data centers in Japan with the ambitious goal of reaching a business scale of 900 MW. CyrusOne KEP joint venture will focus on developing new data centers specifically tailored to meet the demands of hyperscale platform companies. By aligning data center infrastructure with the broader power grid, the collaboration seeks to enhance resilience, efficiency, and smart development in the industry.
Tokyo is among the Northeast Asian locations that has emerged as the leading data center markets in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, according to a report by Knight Frank. The report mentioned that Tokyo will add more than 50MW of new installed capacity in the first quarter of 2023.
