CyrusOne has collaborated with Kansai Electric Power Company (KEPCO) to develop data centers in Japan with the ambitious goal of reaching a business scale of 900 MW.
CyrusOne KEP joint venture will focus on developing new data centers specifically tailored to meet the demands of hyperscale platform companies. By aligning data center infrastructure with the broader power grid, the collaboration seeks to enhance resilience, efficiency, and smart development in the industry.
Moreover, under this agreement, the companies have established a joint venture with equal investments, leveraging their respective strengths to undertake hyperscale data center development and operations in Japan.
CyrusOne KEP plans to make substantial investments totaling at least one trillion yen (equivalent to over $7 billion USD) over the next decade.
In the Q1 of 2023, various data center players have announced their plans to build and expand their portfolio in the country.
Stack Infrastructure constructed a 36MW data center campus located in Inzai as part of its plans to expand its portfolio in Japan, launching a deep commitment to future investments in the APAC region.
Some players have also announced their plans to construct their additional facilities. OPTAGE announced plans to build its fifth data center in Osaka; while MC Digital Realty announced the official opening of its fourth building on its Osaka data center campus.
In the same city, Osaka Keihanna, Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS) launched a major data center which marks the company’s expansion strategy.
Moreover, Digital Edge has partnered with a Japanese real estate developer Hulic to develop a carrier neutral data center facility in downtown Tokyo.
