Singapore Operator StarHub Starts Multi-cloud Network Transformation

StarHub Limited, a Singaporean multinational telecommunication conglomerate, has embarked upon a new multi-cloud network transformation project to improve the delivery, scalability, and performance of its mobile, broadband, and entertainment services.

Support has been assigned to AWS, Google Cloud, Nokia Cloud, and NAVER Cloud. The project goes under the name Cloud Infinity, and will deliver a “low-latency” and “simplified” architecture for more dynamic telecoms services.

The Cloud Infinity initiative, according to StarHub, would result in sustainable business development and huge cost reductions for managing its network operations. The project was regarded as uniquely conceptualized and the first of its sort worldwide.

In its five-year DARE+ growth strategy, designed to strengthen cost reduction and position it for sustainable commercial growth in the long term, Cloud Infinity builds upon an extra investment of up to $40 million.

According to StarHub, in the near future, it will create a safe cloud-brokerage marketplace dubbed Cloud-X to provide businesses and government organizations with sovereign cloud services that are specially designed for regional data privacy and security.

The Cloud Infinity initiative is heavily focused on monetizing fixed and mobile broadband services with enterprises. However, it might also make it possible for users to integrate Metaverse-type services based on technology like holographic overlays and augmented reality.

Moreover, the company also announced that StarHub will switch to a hybrid cloud architecture that is highly scalable and access-neutral. This will enable StarHub to co-develop platforms and solutions with businesses and differentiate its services using low-latency multi-access technologies like 5G and 10Gbps. StarHub has collaborated to jointly create ultra-low latency cloud, communication, and entertainment services in addition to cloudifying its own network functions.

“This move enables StarHub to launch rich digital applications that could be hosted in edge data centers – where data processing happens closer to end users, so they can enjoy faster services. Cloud Infinity lays the groundwork for StarHub to deliver an endless continuum of Infinity Play services.” the company said.
