ST Telemedia Global Data Centre (STT GDC), a data center provider, has announced the structural completion of its first data center facility in Indonesia, the STT Jakarta 1, which will support up to 72 megawatts of critical IT capacity when fully operational in Q2 2023.
The new facility is the campus’s first building and was created as a result of a partnership between Temasek, a major international investment firm, and Triputra Group, a major conglomerate in Indonesia.
STT Jakarta 1 has a Gross Floor Area (GFA) of 18,000 square meters and is ideally placed in Bekasi Regency, close to Jakarta’s eastern boundary.
The facility, which serves Indonesian and international companies as well as hyperscalers in the banking and finance, publishing, gaming, and e-commerce sectors, will help to supply the digital infrastructure required to meet the rising demand for digital and cloud services.
The new TIA-942 Rated-3 data center facility will offer high levels of redundancy in terms of power, storage, computing, and network capacity, ensuring smooth operations in the event of unforeseen circumstances. It was built to comply with the most stringent global business continuity and security standards.
Moreover, in order to guarantee a superior and secure operational environment, STT GDC Indonesia will also pursue certification by Uptime Tier-3 Tier Certification of Design Documents, LEED Gold, various ISO certifications, and Threat Vulnerability Risk Assessment (TVRA).
The data center operations of STT Jakarta 1 will be carbon-neutral from the start, in keeping with STT GDC’s corporate goal and commitment to attaining net carbon-neutral data center operations globally
According to Lionel Yeo, Chief Executive Officer, Southeast Asia, STT GDC, this accomplishment signifies their strategic entry into the Indonesian data center market and is a crucial step for STT GDC in maintaining its position as a major player in the Asia Pacific data center industry.
“I am confident that our expertise in designing, building, and operating data centers can serve the needs of Indonesia’s vibrant digital economy,” said Yeo
The data center will give Indonesian digital innovation a platform to flourish and, as a result, stimulate economic growth. The economic advantages to the neighborhood in the case of STT Jakarta 1 will significantly outweigh the initial investment in building the facility, as the continued on-site operations of the customers, vendors, and support employees will generate tens of thousands of employment years throughout the facility’s lifecycle.
Furthermore, the largest provider of telecommunications infrastructure and networks in Indonesia, Mora Telematika Indonesia (Moratelindo), and STT GDC Indonesia also inked a memorandum of understanding.
In accordance with the terms of the MoU, Moratelindo will establish a point-of-presence (PoP) in STT Jakarta 1 to provide the local, regional, and global connectivity requirements of clients on the campus of the data center.
A point of presence, or PoP, is a physical site where several communication networks and devices interact. It frequently include network interface hardware, like switches, routers, and servers, which enables users to connect to the internet, partners, branch offices, and public cloud services.
For Hendrikus Hendra Gozali, Country Head, Indonesia, STT GDC Indonesia, in order to meet the demands of both regional and global clients, STT Jakarta 1 will keep luring more telecommunications network providers, like Moratelindo, into the facility.
“We are optimistic that Indonesia’s digital economic growth will spur businesses to digitalise further to meet the burgeoning consumer digital demand. STT GDC has a track record of delivering to global standards with market-leading positions in most of our markets. We look forward to raising the bar for data centers in Indonesia and delighting customers with the high-quality service that we have become known for across the region,” said Gozali.
