SEAX Global, an ICT infrastructure and connectivity provider, has announced it has successfully completed the acquisition of an 8,400 sqm site South Tangerang, Indonesia’s BSD Technopark for its new Data Centre Campus.
A neutral provider of ICT infrastructure and solutions, SEAX Global has connectivity infrastructure in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. This marks SEAX Global’s entry into the data center industry.
The SEAX Data Center in BSD Technopark will be built according to the present design, which calls for a dual phase, single block data center with a minimum total power demand of 30 MVA and 4 to 8 data halls.
With the goal of providing seamless wholesale connectivity solutions throughout Southeast Asia, SEAX’s strategic entry into the data center market was a logical step for the business, which already constructs, owns, and manages submarine and terrestrial cable assets throughout the region.
According to Louis Teng, Chief Executive Officer of SEAX Global, the SEAX Data Centre is a natural progression from their goal to more effectively meet their customers’ demands as a one-stop shop ICT solutions provider, in line with their efforts to continuously transform and extend the business beyond connection offerings.
“With the completion of SEAX’s very own data center in Jakarta, our customers will be able to enjoy a seamless PoP to PoP infrastructure offering across Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia.” said Teng.
Moreover, the reason Jakarta was chosen for SEAX’s foray into the data center market, according to Mr. Teng, is that by the end of 2025, the country’s digital economy is predicted to be worth more than USD 124 billion. The Indonesian government has a clear mandate to take advantage of digital transformation and the development of particular ICT infrastructure, which they have also noted.
They contend that the rising popularity of cloud-based services, to which data centers are a crucial component and conduit, is what is driving this momentum. However, they believe that the Indonesian data center business is still in its infancy and that these cloud-based services run the risk of being underutilized.
Given their soon to be operational submarine cable landing facilities in Batam, existing fiber assets, and connectivity networks in the area, this creates a gap in the market and a significant opportunity for SEAX in the data center industry.
The first phase of the SEAX Jakarta-Tangerang data center’s construction is projected to be finished in 2025, and it will incorporate sustainable features as well as environmentally friendly building materials. SEAX is presently exploring a cooperative data center build with a number of potential partners.
