NTT Global Data Centers achieved a significant milestone by landing the MIST subsea cable in Chennai, India. The MIST cable is India’s first 12 fiber pair capacity system, boasting a bandwidth of 200 Tbps, according to the company. It is also one of the largest bandwidth submarine cables in the Asia-Pacific region. This Mist cable is part of the development of an extensive 8,100 km subsea cable system that connects Malaysia, India, Singapore, and Thailand.
This network infrastructure will facilitate NTT GDC to deliver efficient high-speed connectivity capabilities between its data centers in India and other global locations in the near future.
Chennai is a significant landing point in India. The city currently hosts five other cables (BBG, i2icn, SeaMeWe-4, Tata TGN-Tata Indicom, and the Chennai-Andaman & Nicobar Islands Cable), with two more (IAX and SING) in the pipeline.
first announced in October 2019, the cable was originally set to launch in 2022. The cable is now expected to go live in late 2023.
