China Mobile announced that it will accelerate the growth of its cloud computing business after investing about 90 billion yuan ($13 billion) over the past three years on cloud infrastructure.
According to Yang Jie, chairman of China Mobile, as an important part of the new infrastructure, cloud computing has become an effective driving force for the high-quality development of the digital economy and digital productivity that promotes social progress.
Yang said China Mobile would intensify its co-research in technology, build an ecosystem for the development of cloud technology, establish collaborative labs, and step up its efforts to support developer communities.
In the next three years, the company aims to create more than 10,000 channel partners and 2,000 industry solution partners that will work together to offer full-process services like cloud consulting, planning, delivery, operation, and maintenance.
In December 2022, China Mobile also announced that it has built extremely sizable data centers in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Yangtze River Delta regions to gather the additional computers required to power cutting-edge technologies like the metaverse, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things.
Moreover, last year, with a 25-fold growth from three years prior, China Mobile’s cloud computing sales surpassed 50 billion yuan. With year-over-year growth of more than 30% and becoming the primary factor driving revenue gains, China Mobile’s digital transformation generated 207.6 billion yuan in revenue in 2022.
