Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Chinese tech giant Alibaba, has announced it will launch its own ChatGPT-style product Tongyi Qianwen.
According to the company’s press release, Tongyi Qianwen, which possess Chinese and English language capabilities, will initially be deployed on DingTalk, Alibaba’s workplace communication software, and Tmall Genie, a provider of smart home appliances.
The company announced at the 2023 Alibaba Cloud Summit that it would soon integrate chatbots driven by artificial intelligence into all Alibaba products, from business communication to e-commerce. It did not, however, provide a timeline.
“We are at a technological watershed moment driven by generative AI and cloud computing, and businesses across all sectors have started to embrace intelligence transformation to stay ahead of the game,” said Daniel Zhang, chairman and CEO of Alibaba Group and CEO of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.
In February, CNBC reported that Alibaba was working on a ChatGPT rival.
According to the company, the new AI model will soon be implemented across all of Alibaba’s operations in order to enhance user experience.
In addition to Alibaba, several large Chinese IT companies have disclosed their plans to rival ChatGPT as well. In March, Baidu unveiled its own version of ChatGPT, Ernie Bot. NetEase also announced their intentions to launch ChatGPT-style products.
