Digital Connexion has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh Government to build a 1 GW data center in the state. For this project Digital Connexion plans to invest approximately US$ 11 billion by 2030. The AI-native, purpose-built data center project will come up across 400 acres of land in Vishakhapatnam.
In a statement, the company said, “We are building India’s next-generation digital infrastructure through AI-native, purpose-built data centers designed for unmatched performance and scalability. With our data centers, we are unlocking new possibilities towards driving innovation, impact, and sustainable growth and be the trusted digital infrastructure provider of India.”
Visakhapatnam (Vizag) has long been famous as India’s premier ship building hub. But recently it has started attracting billion dollar investments into digital and connectivity infrastructure. In October this year, Google announced its largest investment in India to date, totaling approximately US$ 15 billion to establish its first Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub in India in Visakhapatnam.
Just a day before that, Sify Infinit Spaces Ltd., a prominent Indian data center provider, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Nasdaq listed Sify Technologies Ltd., launched a 50 MW AI-powered Edge Data Center and Open Cable Landing Station (CLS) in Vishakhapatnam. The facility will be built at an investment of Rs 1,500 crores that will span two phases, on 3.6 acres of land allocated by the Andhra Pradesh State Government.
Digital Connexion is a joint venture between Brookfield Asset Management (Brookfield), Reliance Industries Limited and Digital Realty, and currently has one facility MAA10 in Chennai’s Ambattur technology hub.
