Web Werks, one the leading data center hosting services provider in India, and Iron Mountain Data Centers (IMDC), a global provider of data center and colocation services, announced the inauguration of its first greenfield data center in Navi Mumbai named MUM-2.
The Web Werks and Iron Mountain global leadership teams, partners, and officials from the government authorities attended the inauguration ceremony, which was conducted in Rabale, Navi Mumbai, under the direction of William L. Meaney, President and Chief Executive Officer of Iron Mountain.

Despite obstacles brought on by global supply interruptions and COVID-19, the data center was constructed in less than 18 months after it was announced and covers a 120,000 sq ft campus. The MUM-2 is a Tier 3-designated data center with a gross power handling capacity of 10MVA.
Customers can benefit from the existing robust connectivity ecosystem by using it because it is close to the Web Werks Mumbai-1 DC in Navi Mumbai. The data center provides access to Tier-1 carriers, 200+ ISPs, three of India’s leading peering exchanges, as well as a cloud on-ramp with significant hyperscale cloud providers.
According to Nikhil Rathi, CEO of Web Werks, they are thrilled to announce the opening of a second data center in Navi Mumbai. They see rising demand for their services from various customer segments, and their present data center in Mumbai is nearly fully leased. This demand would be further supported by increased cloud adoption, expanding digitization, and the development of the 5G network in India.
“With this new data center and our team of industry veterans, we will be able to support demand and offer a connectivity-rich ecosystem,” said Rathi.
Meanwhile, William L. Meaney, President and Chief Executive Officer, Iron Mountain, an important step has been taken to strengthen the position of Iron Mountain and Web Werks’ Joint Venture as one of India’s top providers of data centers with the inauguration of their first greenfield data center.
“The investment in this new facility reflects our commitment to investing in new highly connected, secure and compliant data centers in the APAC region that will serve our hyperscale, network, content and enterprise customers,” said Meaney.
The Web Werks-Iron Mountain Data Centers JV earlier disclosed that it has inked memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the governments of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to establish data centers in Bangalore and Hyderabad.
The first data halls will be made accessible in the first half of 2023 as the standalone data centers’ development is nearly finished.
During the third ground-breaking ceremony at the Global Investors Summit in Uttar Pradesh in 2022, Web Werks, as a member of the joint venture, revealed plans to invest in a new hyperscale data center in Noida.
The joint venture between Web Werks and Iron Mountain Data Centers will continue to grow in Mumbai, Pune, and Noida as well as make investments in new markets like Chennai.
