In order to boost digital connectivity in rural areas, the Uttar Pradesh government has transformed 2,492 Panchayat Bhawans with better digital connectivity under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA).

According to the state government, the digitally-enabled panchayat bhawans have brought better connectivity for effective and transparent implementation of the welfare schemes at the grassroots level, an ET Government report added.

The total population of Uttar Pradesh is estimated to be about 241 million. According to census 2011, about 77.3 per cent of the total population is living in rural areas.

Better connectivity will not just help these rural pockets get more informed about the welfare schemes but make such schemes more accessible.

“Uttar Pradesh is consistently on the path of development and its rural population is an integral part of this growth trajectory. Ensuring that the benefits of the welfare schemes are provided to every needy, the government has left no stone unturned to transform the rural and remote areas of the state digitally,” a UP government spokesperson said

The report further added that in another move the UP government has is skilling as many as 10 lakh youths to enhance the livelihood in the rural pockets of the state.

The state government is also looking at creating better employment opportunities for the youth under MGNREGA. As per state data so far about 116 crore man-days employment has been provided to about 1.50 crore workers.

“As many as 52,634 community toilets have been constructed to curb open defecation. Village secretariats were established in every gram panchayat to make rural local governance more responsive towards local development needs and to provide benefits of government schemes to all.

The government has also been providing uninterrupted power supply to the villages for upto 20-22 hours in a day,” the state government said.
