Therma Loop AB (T.Loop), a Swedish-based privately owned technology company, is expanding its Nordic footprint with plans to establish operations in Finland, after securing a land reservation in the Eastern industrial area of Hanko for a new data center development. The site is intended to become part of the company’s growing portfolio of data center projects across the Nordics and Europe.
According to a press release this expansion is part of Therma Loop’s approach to establish DEC facilities (Data Energy Centers®). These facilities are designed to be integrated with the energy system, including capturing excess heat for use in local district heating networks and providing services that can support grid stability.
Helena Fagraeus Lundström, CEO, T.Loop, said, “This establishment is an important step in our strategy to build resource-efficient AI infrastructure in the Nordics and Europe. Our model means that data centers not only consume energy, but also contribute back to society.”
The planned facility in Hanko is expected to supply heat to the local district heating network while also contributing to regional energy infrastructure and additional digital capacity. The land reservation remains in place while permitting, environmental review, and technical assessments are completed.
Although no official construction timeline has been announced, the project is part of Therma Loop’s longer-term strategy to position itself as a developer of energy-integrated and resource-efficient data centers. The development comes amid rising investment interest in the region, where access to fossil-free electricity, stable infrastructure, and increasing demand for AI and digital capacity have made the Nordics an attractive location for large-scale digital infrastructure.
