ST Telemedia Global Data Centres India Private Limited (STT GDC India) and O2 Renewable Energy (IV) Private Limited, a subsidiary of O2 Energy SG Pte. Ltd., have joined together to acquire renewable energy through a captive structure. The Bengaluru facility of STT GDC India in the state of Karnataka will be powered by this renewable energy.
In Karnataka, O2 Power’s 201.1 MWac Wind-Solar Hybrid (WSH) project will provide renewable energy. However, the exact amount that STT GDC will be off taking is unknown.
Announcing the partnership, Sumit Mukhija, CEO at STT GDC India said that when it comes to attaining inclusive and responsible growth, environment, social issues, and governance are at the forefront of everything they do. Sustainability continues to be essential as they develop and evolve, from creating green buildings to using renewable energy and employing cutting-edge cooling technologies in their data centers.
“We firmly believe that sustainability is a responsibility that we share with our partners, customers and government and will work closely with these stakeholders as we strive to achieve carbon-neutral data center operations across our facilities in India by 2030.” said Mukhija.
Mukhija continued by saying that this partnership with O2 Power, one of India’s top platforms for renewable energy, further underlines their commitment to implementing and promoting sustainable best practices in their facilities and guiding the industry as a whole in the same direction.
Additionally, they are actively working with regulators, the government, and power generation companies, and they are exploring opportunities and frameworks to eventually achieve carbon-neutral data center operations across all of our facilities in India by 2030.
Moreover, according to Rakesh Garg, co-founder and head of wind vertical O2 Power, in O2 Power’s expanding C&I portfolio, STT GDC India is a notable client. As a result, customers are more confident in their ability to execute and deliver. Businesses of every scale, industry, and market segment may get green and clean power thanks to O2 Power.
STT GDC India is committed to operating carbon-neutral data centers by 2030 in accordance with its ESG Strategy. In addition, STT GDC India sources roughly 36% of the energy utilized in all of its facilities from renewable sources as part of its sustainability efforts, making it one of the leading users of renewable sources among data center operators in India.
By combining their best practices, operational excellence, and collaboration with partners and suppliers of renewable energy, such as O2 Power, they hope to reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 380,000 tons every year by the year 2026. The removal of nearly 25,000 passenger automobiles from the road in a single year would be the equal of this carbon reduction. The company aims to increase the proportion of renewable energy to 60% during the following four years.
