Indonesia’s SM+ Data Centers and LG Sinar Mas, together with Korea Investment Real Asset Management (KIRA), have today opened a 21-megawatt (MW) AI-ready data center in Jakarta, the firms’ joint press release said. The facility, known as SMX01, is ready for service with customer onboarding and stabilizing operations being priorities now. The colocation facility has attracted interest from prospective global, regional, and domestic customers.

Located in Jakarta’s central business district, SMX01 is designed to accommodate conventional enterprise workloads and higher-density AI computing, with flexibility for modular expansion as demand increases.

The facility is owned and managed by SM+ Data Centers, with KIRA as the investment partner and LG Sinar Mas, a joint venture between South Korea’s LG CNS and Sinar Mas-backed SM+, in charge of its design, construction, and technical operations.

“Computing requirements are becoming more varied. Some still run conventional systems, while others are beginning to need significantly higher performance capacity for AI. That is why we built SMX01 so it can expand alongside the market and our customers’ needs,” said Herson Suindah, President Director and Group CEO of SM+ Holdings.

“SMX01 reaching Ready for Service is an important investment milestone because it turns long-term capital into operating digital infrastructure that can support Indonesia’s next phase of digital growth. We see strong fundamentals in the market, and we are pleased to continue working with SM+ Data Centers and LG Sinar Mas as the facility moves from development into operations,” said Yong Sik Kim, CEO of KIRA.

“A data center’s readiness for AI cannot be measured by rack numbers alone. Power, cooling, and structural load capacity must be planned together from the outset. This is the approach we have brought from our experience building and operating data centers in Korea and globally,” said Donghyup Han, CEO of LG Sinar Mas.

SM+ owns and manages 31 data centers across 25 Indonesian cities, including 30 edge data centers, with nearly 45 MW of combined IT load capacity in operations.
