Singtel Expands Data Center Footprint Across Southeast Asia

Singtel intends to expand its data center presence beyond its current borders as the demand for digital infrastructure increases in Southeast Asia. While Singtel has already initiated construction on projects in Indonesia and Thailand, the company is also considering partnering with local entities to establish data center sites in Malaysia and Vietnam.

Currently, the company manages data centers that have a combined capacity of 60 megawatts. However, ongoing development projects will significantly increase this number to 155 MW, more than doubling the existing capacity. Moreover, there are plans for additional expansion that are anticipated to raise the capacity to 209 MW.

In Indonesia, Singtel has entered into a strategic partnership with Telkom Indonesia’s subsidiary NeutraDC, and Indonesian energy company Medco Power for its first data center project in the country. This is the third market for Singtel as it advances its regional data center strategy to address digital infrastructure demand critical to ASEAN’s growth.

The project in Thailand, Singtel, GULF, and AIS have commenced the construction of a new data center strategically located near to Bangkok. The data center will be operated by their joint venture company GSA Data Center Company Limited (GSA) and is expected to start operating commercially in 2025. It will have a capacity of at least 20MW.

In addition, Singtel is in the process of building a facility with a capacity of 58 megawatts in the Tuas industrial region of Singapore. These upcoming structures are designed to incorporate improved power efficiency and greener features. It is expected that these new facilities will be operational by 2025.

Singtel is exploring the possibility of undertaking additional ventures in Malaysia and Vietnam, collaborating with local companies as potential partners. Specifically, there are discussions regarding a project in the state of Johor in Malaysia, which shares a border with Singapore.

Moreover, a project in Vietnam, possibly in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, will target the local market.
