Singtel will establish a separate infrastructure unit called Digital InfraCo, which will incorporate the Group’s regional data center business, subsea cable, and satellite carrier businesses, as well as Paragon – Singtel’s integrated platform for 5G MEC and cloud orchestration.

This is part of Singtel’s plans to reorganize its structure which will involve consolidating the consumer and enterprise businesses in Singapore into a single operating company.

They also plan to expand their reach including collaboration with other industry players.

In March, Nokia and Singtel announced the first successful implementation of IP transport slicing across an end-to-end 5G network in Asia Pacific. The 5G radio, 5G core, and Nokia’s IP transport network slicing technology were used in the Proof of Concept at Singtel’s 5G Garage, a live test facility, training center, and ideation lab.

In February, Singtel, GULF, and AIS have commenced the construction of a new data center strategically located near to Bangkok, capital of Thailand. The data center will be operated by their joint venture company GSA Data Center Company Limited (GSA) and is expected to start operating commercially in 2025.

Singapore’s data center industry is also looking at strategic collaboration to cater to future demand. Keppel Data Centres and Woodside Energy recently signed an agreement to explore the possibility of supplying liquid hydrogen to Singapore. Keppel plans to use hydrogen to power its data center operations, including the upcoming Datapark+ facility in Singapore.

Last September, Equinix, a digital infrastructure firm based in the United States, disclosed its collaboration with the National University of Singapore to trial hydrogen fuel cells as an energy source for data centers located in Singapore.
