Microsoft is in discussions with the Telangana government on a proposal for setting up one of its largest data centres with an investment of over USD 2 to 2.25 billion, sources close to the development said on Thursday.
If the discussions go well, this would be one of the major investments of Microsoft outside the USA, according to reports.
Telangana Minister for IT and Industries KT Rama Rao kicked off the process of discussions by initiating dialogues with senior management of Microsoft about a few months ago.
The report further added that Microsoft is looking forward to add data centres in at least 10 more countries this year, and the company is on pace to build between 50 and 100 new data centres each year for the foreseeable future, Noelle Walsh, a Microsoft corporate vice-president who leads the team that builds and operates the company’s cloud infrastructure had reportedly said earlier.
Prasa, a data centre infrastructure solutions and services provider in India has won 4 projects.
The ISO 9001 – 2015 certified company, has won 3 Projects in Bangalore (Karnataka) and 1 project in Mumbai (Maharashtra) in the First Quarter (April- June).
The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoUs) with Singapore-based CapitaLand and WebWerks for Rs 1,900 crore, to set up two data centres in Ambattur.
In a keynote address on Cloud adoption by Gov- Challenges and Opportunities at W.Media’s South Asia Cloud Security Market Insights event. Rama Devi Lanka, Director- Emerging Technologies & OSD, ITE & C Department, Government of Telangana, said.
“We launched a dedicated data centre policy which is first of its kind in India for facilitating data centre investments in the state and we are offering broad incentives as a part of this data centre policy which includes dedicated land for data centre campuses, access to the dual power grid which will ensure uninterrupted power supply and the necessary options for backup power supply is also available.
Access to high-speed fiber networks and availability of water for cooling purposes is also available.”
She further added “We have tailor-made incentive packages for major projects. These are some of the broad incentives that we offer and because of these incentives various companies have come to Telangana or Hyderabad which is the capital of Telangana and have set up their data centres. The major investments are by AWS, Reliance, and others.”
