Lonestar Data Holdings Inc, a data infrastructure company, has entered into a Space Act Agreement with NASA through NASA’s Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California. The agreement provides a cooperation framework for work on lunar data storage systems, off-world computing infrastructure, and space communications technologies.
According to a press release, the primary focus is on evaluating how data systems could operate beyond Earth, including in environments where terrestrial infrastructure is unavailable or disrupted. These systems are being explored for potential use in future government, commercial, and scientific missions. Early work will center on technical assessment of lunar-edge data infrastructure concepts.
Steve Eisele, CEO, Lonestar, said, “Signing this Space Act Agreement with NASA Ames represents an important milestone for Lonestar as we continue building the future of resilient space-based data infrastructure, as humanity expands beyond Earth, trusted data resilience and secure digital infrastructure will become as essential as power and communications.”
Space Act Agreements are authorized under the National Aeronautics and Space Act and allow NASA to collaborate with external organizations on projects aligned with its mission and broader U.S. space objectives.
Lonestar has positioned its long-term strategy around using Earth orbit and the Moon for secure data storage and backup infrastructure. The company is developing lunar data center concepts intended to support sovereign and disaster-resilient storage for institutional and commercial users.
