LG CNS, a South Korean digital transformation company, targets North American and European expansion with modular data center strategy. Its US subsidiary will work with local partners with an initial 30 MW of power capacity, expandable to 220 MW.
The company’s prefabricated modular approach involves manufacturing key data center components in advance and assembling them on site, thus reducing construction time. LG CNS sees the model as a way to address development delays linked to power constraints and shortages of skilled workers as reported by ajupress.
Yoo Ki-woong, vice president, AI and cloud division, LG CNS, said during an earnings call on Friday: “We plan to step up our push into North America and Europe based on our prefabricated modular data center capabilities and supply chain built on Nvidia’s Vera Rubin.”
Readers will recall that LG CNS has recently completed construction of a 30 MW AI data center in Jakarta, Indonesia. The project was commissioned by Kuningan Mas Gemilang (KMG), a joint venture between Indonesia’s Cinarmas Group and South Korea’s Tuzarial Asset Management.
The facility is designed to support high performance computing (HPC) using next generation graphics processing units (GPUs) and marks the first time a South Korean company has directly built an AI data center overseas for a local customer.
