Frier Vest Holding, one of Norway’s largest adapted industrial areas, and BW Velora, a sustainable digital infrastructure development firm, have signed an agreement to develop a large-scale data center with associated infrastructure at the Frier Vest industrial park in Grenland, Norway.
The project is described as the first major industrial agreement in the area and is intended to support further industrial development in the region. BW Velora will develop the facility in parts of the fully regulated industrial site. The planned data center has a projected capacity of around 250 MW as detailed in a press release.
Sven Ombudstvedt, Managing Director, Frier Vest, said, “The agreement with BW Velora is a first important step in realizing the ambition to create the industrial area of the future at Frier Vest, which provides room for industry, knowledge and growth, digital infrastructure is a prerequisite for almost all new industrial establishment. The significant investments of BW Velora make it even more interesting for other businesses to establish themselves in the same area.”
Nils Kristian Liveng-Ness, Director and Co-founder, BW Velora, said, “The need for green transition, a strong growth in the demand for computing power driven by artificial intelligence and automation, as well as a more troubled geopolitical situation where control over critical digital infrastructure is becoming increasingly important, are the three global megatrends driving demand.”
Frier Vest Holding, which owns the industrial area together with Grenland Harbour, SIVA and Bamble municipality, had the site fully regulated for industrial development and positioned for energy-intensive and digitally driven industries. The 1,800-acre area is located by the Frierfjord and has access to deep-water quay facilities, transport links and renewable power.
