du Collaborates With Dubai Authorities To Operate 5G Drones

du from Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC), has partnered with Dubai authorities to deliver solutions that will drive the next generation of high-performance, low-power, 5G drones.

A futuristic drone solution has been demonstrated by Du over a private secured network using 5G technology. Using video recording, streaming, and monitoring in areas across the city, Du has strengthened security and safety measures to operate drones. During New Year’s Eve, over two million people visited Dubai Downtown area to celebrate the occasion.

In partnership with the company, Dubai authorities were able to digitize their operations, remotely control autonomous drones, and provide live video streaming to their command center.

To ensure a high-quality network experience on New Year’s Eve, du prepared its Private 5G mobile network with a unique configuration to ensure uninterrupted coverage and quality of service that satisfied the connectivity requirements of the drones in the area.

The partnership was highly successful as it enabled a new 5G use case in UAE by du and enabled solution to observe and operate drones that monitored the crowd, facilitated security measures and provided visibility in crowded places such as Downtown Dubai, particularly the fountain area which attracted a large number of visitors and made Sheikh Zayed Road congested with vehicles.

Under its new campaign “A network that gets you”, du’s Private 5G network supports development for commercial, enterprise, and industrial drones, and unleashes innovative possibilities for industries looking to adopt drone solutions and realise the benefits of the intelligent edge.
