Digital Realty’s Osaka Data Center Receives H100-Ready Certification

U.S.-based data center company Digital Realty says its new data center in Osaka, the KIX13, is now certified with Nvidia’s most-advanced H100 processors that enable artificial intelligence applications. The facility, which officially opened in February this year, is a joint venture between Mitsubishi Corporation and is the fourth building on the 23,000-square meter Osaka data center campus.

With this, Digital Realty says enterprise customers can devise full-stack solutions with AI deployments, allowing for data localization and meeting global coverage, capacity, and connectivity.

The company stressed AI deployments, the driving force of modern technologies, are dependent on data centers that provide high-performance cooling, layout, and connectivity as industries increasingly seek access to real-time data to enable instantaneous changes and decision-making.

Developers using the H100 require hefty computing power to enable AI models to generate text, images, or predictions. That’s the reason by Japan’s public and private sectors are providing full support to help boost the country’s processing capacity.

The Japanese government is reportedly paying for half of the building of  US$ 100 million supercomputer that contains Nvidia GPUs. The government is also reportedly devising softer AI regulations compared to the European Union to not discourage development.

Meanwhile, Japan’s biggest investment firm Softbank announced last month it’ll capitalize billions on the AI revolution to develop its own generative AI model. Softbank has also joined forces with the U.S. AI chipmaker for AI and 5G innovation at data centers in Japan.

According to a study, Japan’s data center market is forecasted to experience steady growth at a CAGR of 5.93% during the 2022-2028 period, buoyed by Japan’s status as an economic powerhouse in the APAC region and a hub for global connectivity.
