Digital Edge Enters Philippines’ Data Center Market

NARRA1 set to be the most energy efficient and largest carrier neutral facility in the market

Digital Edge, one of the data center platforms with the quickest rate of expansion in Asia, has announced that its brand-new 10MW data center in Manila would be “RFS” as of 1 March 2023. When this data center is finished, it will be Digital Edge’s first entry into the Philippine market and a step closer to the company’s goal of closing the digital divide in South East Asia’s fastest-growing economies.

NARRA1 is a joint venture with the Threadborne Group, a local family business with an emphasis on real estate and technology. It seeks to fill any unfulfilled demand from the Philippines’ data center colocation industry, which Structure Research predicts would reach US$313 million by 2026 with a double-digit growth rate (22% CAGR). According to Digital Edge, several significant domestic internet service providers have already made reservations for the new data center.

This 2,200 cabinet, state-of-the-art data center is situated in Binan Laguna, adjacent to the Central Business Districts (CBDs), and it is anticipated that, when completed, it will be the largest carrier neutral facility operating in the Philippines. It has been created to satisfy the most recent requirements for power standards, dependability, security, and sustainability from cloud, network, digital media, and enterprise users.

With a market-leading PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) of 1.2 and a WUE (Water Usage Effectiveness) of 1.355 at the ideal operating temperature, the new facility will be the most energy and water efficient data center in the market, in keeping with the company’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy. The building will also have three certifications: LEED Gold, BERDE, and EDGE.

According to Samuel Lee, Chief Executive Officer at Digital Edge, the completion of NARRA1, the company’s first significant greenfield design and build project since its founding, marks an important turning point in the development of their regional platform throughout Asia. With the opening of this cutting-edge facility in the Philippines, they expand their presence in South East Asia and advance their goal of closing the digital divide by creating the vital, long-lasting digital ecosystems of the future.

For Vic Barrios, Country Manager for Digital Edge in the Philippines, they are honored to make their Manila debut with this absolutely remarkable facility, which will provide the Philippines with the deserving, high-quality digital infrastructure it has long deserved. Most importantly, NARRA1 sets the bar in terms of environmentally friendly architecture and operational effectiveness, and its developers believe that it will eventually replace existing green data center standards in the Philippines and elsewhere.

Furthermore Charlie Rufino, Chairman of the Threadborne Group, added that they are excited to announce the inauguration of their first data center, which will offer much-needed key infrastructure to domestic and foreign cloud, network, and corporate customers while upholding their environmental obligations.

They look forward to expanding their cooperation with Digital Edge as they work to take advantage of the Philippines’ economy’s continuous digital transformation and usher in a new era of top-notch digital infrastructure.
