Equinix, the digital infrastructure company, announced the opening of its latest data center in Singapore, designed to support artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and data-intensive workloads. The data center is among the first developed under Singapore’s Data Centre Call for Application framework.
SG6 is Equinix’s sixth International Business Exchange data center in Singapore, according to an Equinix press release, expanding the company’s data center footprint to more than 280 facilities worldwide. G6 is built for high-density AI deployments, with advanced cooling that accommodates power-intensive GPU infrastructure.
“Asia-Pacific is at the forefront of digital transformation, with AI adoption, cloud expansion and data-intensive workloads driving unprecedented demand for high-performance digital infrastructure,” said Cyrus Adaggra, Equinix President of Asia-Pacific. “SG6 strengthens our ability to support customers as they scale across Asia-Pacific, providing the resilient, interconnected and sustainable infrastructure they need to accelerate innovation and capture new growth opportunities.”
Equinix has committed an initial investment of approximately US$ 290 million to SG6. The first phase has 8 MW of capacity, with 20 MW targeted at full buildout. The facility is designed to achieve a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.2 and is targeting Green Mark Platinum certification. Platinum is the highest tier of the Green Mark scheme run by Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority, which has specific criteria for data centers
The facility incorporates rooftop and facade solar photovoltaic systems, rainwater harvesting capabilities, and lower-embodied-carbon construction materials to support more efficient operations.
“Equinix has been investing in Singapore for nearly 25 years, and our new facility will further expand our presence as the neutral exchange where enterprises connect to the clouds, networks and partners they need to innovate and grow. Singapore is one of our most important markets globally, and our continued investment here is a testament to the central role it plays in the digital economy,” said Adaire Fox-Martin, Equinix Chief Executive Officer and President.
The company also said it intends to open a Co-Innovation Facility with the National University of Singapore at the data center. The Co-Innovation Facility will seek to advance technologies that improve data center sustainability and energy efficiency.
Last week, Equinix raised its full-year guidance for the third consecutive quarter. As w.media reported, the company executed more than 25,000 transactions across over 3,200 customers, aiding in delivery of double-digit growth across key metrics. Equinix said that on the back of a record quarter, it expects to deliver revenue between US$ 10.325 billion and US$ 10.365 billion for the full year, up from between US$ 10.205 billion and US$ 10.285 billion as previously guided.
