Thai construction giant, Stecon Group Pcl aims to bid for three data-center construction projects worth a combined 49.8 billion baht (US$ 1.5 billion). The company, which is controlled by the family of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, is also in talks with several potential partners to jointly invest in several new data center projects in Thailand, according to Bloomberg quoting Siya Tansamrit, deputy chief strategy and new business officer of Stecon.
As of June 30, the company has in hand 13.2 billion baht of jobs from four data center facilities.
The projects are expected to open for bidding this year, according to Siya yesterday during a video conference with investors, as reported by Bloomberg.
“We have a very bullish outlook for Thailand’s data-center business, with many projects in the pipeline. Stecon is also in talks with several potential partners to jointly invest in several new data-center projects,” she reportedly said. Stecon has an advantage due to its vast experience in large-scale construction.
If successful, the contracts would strengthen the company’s foothold in the digital infrastructure sector in Thailand. The sector is experiencing an unprecedented boom amid billions poured in from foreign operators looking to cash in on the strong demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
In 1H2026, investment applications in Thailand surged to 1.47 trillion, a one-third increase compared to the previous reporting period.
In July, w.media reported that investment in AI dominated FDI into Thailand’s high tech sector, led by East Asians.
