EdgeMode, a global energy and AI data center infrastructure company, has expanded its joint venture with Blackberry Alternative Investment Fund (BAIF), an energy and infrastructure development group, by acquiring three additional large-scale AI data center development projects, adding 2 GW of planned capacity.

The new projects –  DC Villasequilla (600 MW), DC Tomelloso (450 MW), and DC Tocumen (1,000 MW) – take the joint venture’s total planned capacity to 3.5 GW. The capacity is divided with 2.5 GW located in Spain and 1 GW in Panama. The assets will be developed under the same commercial, technical, and governance terms as the original joint venture.

According to a press release, EdgeMode is positioning itself as a major AI data center developer across Europe and Central America, focusing on power-secured, Ready-to-Build (RTB) sites. The company’s strategy emphasizes grid-independent development models designed to shorten timelines to power and deployment, a key constraint in AI infrastructure development.

Charlie Faulkner, EdgeMode, CEO, said, “Scale and speed matter more than ever in AI infrastructure, this expansion is a direct consequence of the progress we’ve made across our sites, the strength of our partnership with BAIF, and growing off-taker demand for power-secured campuses that can be delivered quickly”

José Mora, BAIF, CEO, said, “By expanding the joint venture, we are combining scale with deep local development expertise, enabling the delivery of power-secured, RTB projects that meet the needs of customers and investors across multiple geographies.”

Readers would recall that in November 2025, W.Media had reported on EdgeMode’s plans to acquire five AI data centers in Spain. The portfolio represents over 1.5 GW of planned Tier 3 data center capacity, making it one of the largest AI-focused infrastructure initiatives currently underway in Europe.

The revised agreement also increases local development capacity within the joint venture, adding regional expertise and execution resources in Spain and Panama. The companies will support permitting, power infrastructure buildout, and site development across a larger portfolio.

The expansion follows progress across EdgeMode’s existing sites and reflects rising demand from hyperscale and enterprise customers for large-scale AI data center campuses with secured power and predictable delivery schedules. EdgeMode will provide further updates as development progresses and commercial discussions with potential customers continue.
