Crusoe has marked a major milestone in its AI infrastructure expansion by topping out the eighth and final building at its flagship Stargate data center campus in Abilene, Texas. The campus is being developed by Crusoe and leased to Oracle and OpenAI.

Construction began in July 2024 as part of the Lancium Clean Campus with the first Nvidia GB200 racks installed in early 2025. The initial two buildings became operational in September, providing 980,000 square feet of space and supporting over 200MW of IT capacity for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) in service of OpenAI workloads.

In a LinkedIn post, Crusoe acknowledged the help of 7,000 electricians, construction pros, and skilled tradespeople who “come to Abilene every day to build the future of AI infrastructure”.

The second phase began in March which added six additional buildings. The campus will span approximately 4 million square feet with a total power capacity of 1.2GW, making it one of the largest AI-focused data center sites in the United States when completed. Completion of the full campus is expected by mid-2026.

Oracle CTO Larry Ellison has indicated that the entire Crusoe campus will be utilized for the Stargate project. The Abilene site represents the first of OpenAI’s Stargate locations to come online, but the company has announced plans for additional AI-focused data centers across the U.S. and internationally.

Crusoe’s development of the Stargate campus highlights the rapid growth in demand for AI computing infrastructure, as companies race to scale capabilities to support advanced models and cloud-based AI services.
