Google plans its largest investment in any state in the U.S. with US$ 40 billion and establishing three new data-center campuses across Texas as announced last Friday in Midlothian by Governor Greg Abbott and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.
These facilities will power next-generation AI systems, strengthen cloud services for businesses, and expand the technical backbone supporting the company’s global operations. The data centers are expected to anchor long-term growth in regions across North Texas, West Texas, and the Panhandle as detailed in a press release.
Texas’ Governor, Abbott, said “Texas is the epicenter of AI development, where companies can pair innovation with expanding energy. We must ensure that America remains at the forefront of the AI revolution, and Texas is the place where that can happen.”
Sundar Pichai, CEO, Alphabet Google said, “The US$ 40 billion investment we announced today will bring three new data center campuses to the state to power the new era of AI innovation and accelerate energy affordability initiatives throughout Texas.”
The Texas expansion is part of Google’s broader “Investing in America” initiative, a multiyear effort aimed at strengthening the nation’s technical infrastructure, advancing research and development, and expanding energy capacity to meet the demands of AI-driven technologies. The initiative also focuses heavily on workforce development, reflecting growing national demand for engineers, data-center technicians, and energy specialists capable of supporting large-scale AI systems.
State officials and Google executives see the Texas investment as a major economic boost to widen the state’s talent pipeline, help local industries adopt and benefit from emerging AI tools. The project is expected to deliver sustained long-term growth as AI adoption accelerates across sectors aimed at preparing Texas for a rapidly growing AI-driven economy through the buildout of data-center infrastructure, energy-capacity initiatives, and workforce-training programs.
