The TVS Industrial & Logistics Park Pvt Ltd (TVS ILP) has built an industrial facility for Alstom in the southern state of Tamil Nadu as a part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
TVS ILP is a part of the TVS Group and has 30 plus industrial parks located across the country. The facility is expected to generate 10,000 jobs. TVS ILP has again collaborated with Alstom, a transportation solution major, for setting up a world-class component manufacturing facility at Coimbatore. It is the largest such facility of Alstom in Asia.
“Our presence in Coimbatore dates to the 1970s and since then we’ve grown multifold. The opening of this facility is a testament of our commitment to the government’s flagship ‘Make in India’ & ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. With our enhanced capabilities and a team of talented and dedicated employees, we are proud to be a catalyst in India’s manufacturing led growth story. We have been the preferred mobility partner on various Indian projects and are keenly looking forward to becoming a leading supplier of components across Alstom’s sites globally.” Alain Spohr Managing Director of Alstom, India & South Asia
The facility was inaugurated by Alstom at TVS ILP’s industrial park, located in Sulur taluk of Coimbatore, and it is spread across 15 acres. According to Alstom, the facility is expected to create 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, and they have invested around 25 million Euros in this facility.
The durability of the building construction has been enhanced due to the use of PEB structures. For the construction of the facility, innovative designs were used without compromising on the fire safety and security of the facility, company executives said.
The facility has been delivered to Alstom on time despite labour availability challenges due to the Covid pandemic. Not withstanding the interstate restriction on the movement of materials during the lockdown, the site construction schedule was kept on track by sourcing superior quality materials within the district or the state, officials said.
TVS ILP’s committed approach towards sustainability, right from the project designing stage, has provided Alstom with a facility at Coimbatore where energy saving is a top priority. From the basic design level, water and power management systems have been successfully implemented in the facility. The energy savings are achieved through reduced water usage, solar power generation, and waste conversion to manure.
Automation & Sustainability
TVS ILP has planned all the utilities with automation, using a Building Management System. It has led to reduced wastage of electricity and water. The facility roof has been designed in such a way that it can comfortably house solar panels up to 3 MW.
For rainwater harvesting, a pond with a 1.5 lakh litres capacity with natural rubble stones has been created. The rainwater from the entire facility gets collected there, and hence it ensures that it also has limited rainwater discharge. The pond is designed in such a manner that all the rainwater gets percolated back to earth, improving the water table.
The roof rainwater collection tank ensures that approximately 50 per cent of the rainwater gets collected and reused for utility purposes. It will save around 26 per cent of the total water requirements. The Sewage Treatment Plant has been designed to reuse the entire water for flushing and gardening.
The facility’s Administration Office building has been designed for natural lightings using full-length glass façades and windows. Lighting sensors are installed throughout the facility to optimise the power consumption.
