Telehouse today announced the opening of its first Thai data center at the prime location of Rama 9 in Bangkok with an investment of THB 2.5 billion (about US$74 million) aiming to create the connectivity ecosystem and to achieve 100% power supply by renewable energy in Thailand.
Bangkok is the newest location among 45 Telehouse locations in the world. Telehouse Thailand is the third footprint in Southeast Asia with a building area of 9,000 square meters and a 9.5MVA power capacity.
With the location in the center of Bangkok – Rama 9, the data center focuses on the interconnection strategy. It is also keen on green environmental initiatives as it aims to procure 100% renewable energy-based electricity.
Thailand’s data center and cloud services markets are expected to grow between 2022 and 2027 thanks to a digitally-savvy population and the government’s efforts to promote a more connected society.
In Q1 of 2023, several companies have announced plans to develop data centers in the country including NTT which invested THB 3 billion (USD 90 million) through NTT Global Data Centers Corporation for the development of its newest and largest data center in Thailand.
GSA Data Center Company (GSA), a joint venture between Singtel, GULF, and AIS have also commenced the construction of a new data center strategically located near to Bangkok and is expected to start operating commercially in 2025.
Moreover, two Thailand-based data center operators, Etix Everywhere and Supernap, have also launched and expanded their data center powered by renewable energy to conform the requirements in terms of environmental sustainability.
