Sustainability, Energy Efficiency & Hyperscalers Shine the Light at W.Media’s Indonesia Cloud & Data Centre Convention 2022

Delegates at Indonesia's Cloud & Data Center Convention 2022

Indonesia has the 4th largest population and is also projected to be the fastest growing market for data centres in SEA, with a growth rate of 22 per cent per annum over the next five years.

Further, Indonesia ranks first for the greatest mobile e-commerce penetration rate. The Covid-19 pandemic has only accelerated the digital transformation journey that businesses across the region were already undergoing.

Enterprises enhance their interconnection capacity in order to compete in an increasingly digital economy; businesses find innovative ways to interconnect with their customers and partners to gain a competitive advantage in an increasingly remote and dispersed environment. In this backdrop, how will the industry capitalise on this opportunity?

Will the subsequent impact of 5G hyper accelerate demand? What challenges could be in store as the digital landscape expands? All this was discussed at the Indonesia Cloud & Data Centre Convention 2022.

A New DC Strategy For Indonesia

Southeast Asia is projected to be the fastest-growing region in the world of data centres. Indonesia and Thailand are identified as rapidly developing, rising stars that are expected to expand their share of the region’s data centre pie.

Both countries offer ease of access and lower cost of entry than Singapore. Wong Ka Vin, Chief Executive Officer, Data Center First, an industry veteran, gave his in-depth insights on the current DC developments in Southeast Asian countries and what future there is for Singapore.

Marco Cioffi, Deputy President Director, DCI Indonesia explained in detail about how Data Centers are the “ROADS” of the Digital Economy. As the data centre footprint increases, it raises the question on sustainability and how it is becoming a necessity and not a luxury!

Mayank Srivastava, Interim CEO – Indonesia & CDO of BDx, discussed the importance of green data centers. What are the efforts taken to decrease power consumption, emissions of carbon, and what are the adaptation measures taken for the increase in energy-efficient infrastructure in the global market.

In a related area, Samir Borkar, Global Head, Siemens outlined how Renewables and Sustainability in Indonesia Data Centres can lead to a better planet going forward. Indra Setyadi, Consultative and Digital Services, Schneider Electric touched upon ways to engineer energy-efficient data centre automation and best practices.

The event saw 1,000+ participants.
