STTGDC, a global colocation data center provider, has announced that it has secured a US$ 590 million green loan facility to finance the fit-out and subsequent operation of STTGDC TYO1 and STTGDC TYO2, the two buildings comprising its data center campus in Japan. Located in Goodman Business Park in Inzai City, in the Greater Tokyo area, the campus will provide a combined 70.8 MW of IT capacity. It will cater to hyperscalers, cloud service providers and enterprises in Japan.

The financing was supported by Standard Chartered, which acted as Lead Coordinator, alongside Mizuho Bank, OCBC, Société Générale and UOB. Standard Chartered and Société Générale also acted as Green Loan Coordinators.

“This financing reflects the strength of our Japan platform and the confidence of our banking partners in the quality and long-term potential of the Tokyo campus,” said Nelson Lim, Group Chief Financial Officer, STTGDC. “It provides the capital foundation to advance the campus while maintaining a disciplined approach to growth. Importantly, the green-loan structure aligns our financing strategy with the environmental performance of the assets we develop, reinforcing how sustainability is integrated into our capital allocation and investment decisions.”

“The Tokyo campus is central to our long-term commitment to Japan and strengthens our ability to support customers as their cloud, AI and digital infrastructure requirements grow,” said Kiyoshi Maeda, Chief Executive Officer – Japan, STTGDC. “Customers need infrastructure that can scale with their ambitions while delivering the resilience and efficiency required for mission-critical operations. Through STTGDC TYO1 and STTGDC TYO2, we are building that capacity in one of Japan’s established data center markets and creating a strong platform for our continued growth in the country.”

STTGDC says that the facility was structured in accordance with the Green Loan Principles, and links financing to defined environmental eligibility criteria. These include the data centers attaining an agreed green building certification and achieving a design Power Usage Effectiveness ratio of 1.3 or below.

STTGDC TYO1, STTGDC’s first operational data center in Japan, has achieved LEED Gold certification and aims to achieve an annualized Power Usage Effectiveness of less than 1.25. Its closed-loop cooling system is designed to minimize operational water use, with no ongoing water consumption during normal operations. The facility has obtained ISO 22301, ISO 27001 and ISO/IEC 20000 certifications and complies with Japan Data Center Council guidelines. STTGDC says that since commencing operations, STTGDC TYO1 has maintained carbon-neutral operations for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, while continuing to pursue renewable-energy procurement and improvements in energy efficiency. Meanwhile, STTGDC TYO2 is being developed to support high-density AI and accelerated-computing workloads, with provision for future liquid-cooling deployment. It is also targeting TIA-942-C Design Certification and LEED Gold.
