Singapore Government Teams Up with Google Cloud to Propel AI Advancements in the City-State

Singapore’s government has recently unveiled an extensive series of collaborations with Google Cloud to drive the advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities in the country.

The partnership between Singapore’s Smart Nation and Digital Government Office and Google Cloud will introduce the Artificial Intelligence Government Cloud Cluster (AGCC), an initiative aimed at bolstering AI capabilities in the public sector of Singapore.

The AGCC serves as a platform designed to expedite AI adoption in the country’s public sector, promote local research endeavors in applied AI, and support the growth of the domestic AI startup ecosystem.

According to Sherie Ng, Google Cloud’s Country Director for Singapore, AI has the potential to profoundly impact the digital service delivery of the public sector, enabling automation of data entry, fraud detection, acceleration of cancer research, reinforcement of emergency response systems, enhancement of water resource management, and more.

Through the AGCC, government agencies will gain access to Google Cloud’s AI solutions and extensive partner network, empowering them to swiftly develop and implement secure, responsible, and cost-effective AI applications.

Additionally, Google Cloud will collaborate with the Government Technology Agency (GovTech) to enhance data science and AI skills across the Singapore government through comprehensive Digital Academy programs, reaching over 150,000 public officers spanning more than 50 statutory boards.

Moreover, the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) will collaborate with Google Cloud to establish Singapore as a globally trusted AI hub. Aligned with Singapore’s national AI vision and strategy, the government aims to nurture the country’s position as a leading global provider of AI solutions by 2030.

Singapore has been in the forefront of improving its digital ecosystem. Just recently, the country launched new standards for data centers to support the growth of compute capacity while ensuring environmental sustainability.

Furthermore, Singapore is also embarking on a significant project called the Digital Connectivity Blueprint to enhance its internet and technology infrastructure. The country aims to reinforce its status as an open economy and highly connected hub in Asia by increasing the number of submarine cable landing facilities.
