Reliance Industries’ Jio Platforms has announced a partnership with GPU giant Nvidia, aimed at advancing India’s AI landscape. This collaboration will focus on developing a large language model tailored to India’s diverse languages and creating a powerful AI infrastructure that surpasses the capabilities of India’s fastest supercomputer.
The joint initiative will provide accelerated computing access to researchers, developers, startups, scientists, AI experts, and more throughout India, fostering innovation and technological advancement. Nvidia will equip Jio with cutting-edge AI supercomputer solutions, including the Nvidia GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and Nvidia DGX Cloud, along with frameworks for crafting advanced AI models. Jio will manage the AI cloud infrastructure and customer interactions.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang expressed excitement about the partnership, recognizing India’s immense potential in scale, data, and talent. He emphasized the importance of advanced AI computing infrastructure to empower Reliance in building its own large language models for generative AI applications tailored to India’s needs.
Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, noted that as India transitions from data proliferation to technology infrastructure development, initiatives like the one with Nvidia will catalyze growth, similar to what Jio accomplished in the nation’s digital transformation.
In a separate announcement, Nvidia disclosed a partnership with India’s Tata Group to train 600,000 employees at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in AI advancements and build AI infrastructure with Tata Communications.
