Raxio Group, a Pan-African data center developer and operator, is investing and establishing ‘Raxio Angola’, the latest facility to be part of Raxio’s fast expanding network of interconnected carrier neutral, Tier III data centers across the African continent.
The digital and telecommunications ecosystems in Angola have been increasing rapidly, and the country currently has a 27% internet penetration rate. While some existing connectivity providers are actively expanding their networks, footprints, and services, others have been actively joining the market.
These factors work together to create a development opportunity for the region to develop into a vital connectivity hub, including significant cross-border traffic with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where Raxio is already constructing a cutting-edge facility in Kinshasa.
According to Robert Mullins, CEO of Raxio Group, the need for connectivity and related services is expanding in Angola. It is strategically positioned to develop into a connectivity hub for the region, making it a crucial market for their expanding portfolio.
As with all of their facilities, Raxio Angola is being built in strict accordance with their ESG standards, resulting in a facility that is built and operated to the highest international environmental standards, as well as a positive impact through the creation of both direct and indirect highly skilled jobs.
Given the lack of carrier-neutral, Tier III certified data centers in the country, Raxio Angola will be a crucial link between terrestrial and submarine connectivity, meeting both domestic and foreign demand.
Raxio Angola, which is scheduled to open in February 2024, will be the company’s sixth data center in Africa. The facility will be situated in the Cacuaco district, on the outskirts of Luanda, close to landing points for subsea cables, and not far from the city’s central business center.
Land has already been secured, enabling Raxio to construct a facility that will provide more than 6MW of IT capacity. The prime real estate location of Raxio in Cacuaco benefits from access to dependable grid power, terrestrial fiber connectivity, and road infrastructure, and is positioned strategically to serve as a viable location for both main and disaster recovery needs of clients.
After being put into service, Raxio Angola will offer the best colocation environment for local, regional, and international businesses, Content Delivery Networks, and cloud service providers. It will also enable cross-connection between local and international carriers and offer a number of value-added services.
Raxio Angola will provide its clients with an optimum environment for their IT equipment in a cutting-edge “metro-edge” building constructed in accordance with Raxio’s standard design principles utilized across its portfolio.
Furthermore, the data center will be completely furnished with cutting-edge technological innovations that not only guarantee complete redundancy and maximum uptime but also maximize power usage and energy efficiency.
With the capacity to house the highest power density equipment at the lowest power usage effectiveness ratio (PUE) in the region, this multi-megawatt facility will establish a new standard for data center services in the country.
“Our decision to build Angola’s first Tier III carrier neutral facility highlights our commitment to our strategy to deliver the vital digital infrastructure needed on the African continent. With new connectivity solutions arriving and the continued evolution of the digital ecosystem in the region, we will continue to build larger hyper-scale ready facilities across a wider geographic footprint to meet the demand.” said Mullins.
