PLDT Inc. has declared the readiness of its network infrastructure to address the demands and complexities posed by Cloud-based systems and artificial intelligence (AI) on the global corporate stage.
According to Mitch Locsin, the Head of PLDT Enterprise, the company’s infrastructure is fully equipped to support the growth of Cloud and AI technologies in the country.
Locsin emphasized the comprehensive nature of their infrastructure, encompassing submarine cables, domestic fiber backbones, and data centers essential for the proper operation of Cloud and storage of AI data within the Philippines.
Highlighting key projects, Locsin mentioned the activation of the US-Transpacific Jupiter Cable system in July 2022, along with the upcoming Asia Direct Cable (ADC) and APRICOT cable system activations slated for early 2024 and early 2025, respectively.
The Jupiter system, spanning 14,000 kilometers, links the country’s data cable connections to the US and Japan, while the 12,000-kilometer APRICOT system connects to Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Guam. The 9,400-kilometer subsea ADC link connects multiple international cable landing points across East and Southeast Asia.
Furthermore, the VITRO data centers aim to create stable, high-speed internet-connected ecosystems, fostering economic growth for industrial establishments. Current VITRO sites are strategically located in Makati 1, Makati 2, Pasig, Taguig, Paranaque, Clark, Subic, Cebu 1, Cebu 2, and Davao.
PLDT Chairman Manny Pangilinan stressed the significance of prioritizing infrastructure development to ensure connectivity, followed by the establishment of a robust IT layer.
