Japan’s NTT Data Group, a unit of telecommunications giant NTT is seeking to buy additional land in Indonesia as part of its two- to-three- year data center expansion plan, the company said in an interview today as reported by Reuters. Since 2015, NTT has invested US$ 500 million in data centers in Indonesia.

The firm did not disclose the amount for the planned investment.

Reportedly describing the Indonesian expansion as “very aggressive”, Yasuhiro Kajiki, managing director for Japan and Asia Pacific at NTT Data’s data centres unit, added that the firm is prioritising engagement with local communities as pushbacks from local residents are increasing worldwide.

As of January, Indonesia’s data center market was valued at US$2.81 billion in 2025 and is expected to more than double to US$6.08 billion by 2031, as per Research and Markets report.

Last month, NTT Data launched AI factories in several cities globally including Paris, Munich and Singapore, joining existing AI factories in Texas, US and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in a global expansion move.
