LG Uplus Corp (LG Uplus), a South Korean mobile network operator owned by LG corporation, will invest an additional 1.3 trillion won (US$ 910 million) to expand its artificial intelligence data center (AIDC) in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, as it accelerates its AI infrastructure business.
The Paju AIDC is a 200 MW class facility spanning about 150,000 square meters, and is the largest AI data center project in the wider Seoul metropolitan area. The first computer center, scheduled for completion in June 2027, has already secured all tenancy contracts.
The LG Uplus board of directors approved the second-phase investment plan on July 29, which will fund the construction of Computer Centers 2 and 3 and related facilities. LG Uplus will also begin designing Computer Center 4 to prepare for growing demand for AI infrastructure.
LG Uplus introduced its “ACE on Trust” strategy for the Paju facility, focusing on agility, capacity and efficiency as AI workloads increasingly shift toward inference operations that require greater power, cooling and operational flexibility. The facility will also use robotics systems to monitor temperature, humidity, water leaks and dust around the clock to improve operational stability.
The facility will serve as a key hub of its “One LG” AI infrastructure by combining technologies from across the LG Group. “The Paju AIDC is a core hub of the ‘One LG’ AI infrastructure that combines LG Electronics’ liquid cooling solution, LG Energy Solution’s high-performance UPS batteries, and the data center operations capabilities LG Uplus has built over 27 years” as reported by Chosun Biz.
“AI data center competitiveness is no longer determined by facility size alone, but by how reliably operators can manage the entire infrastructure stack,” the company’s official told Korea Times. “The Paju AI data center will serve as a flagship example of that capability.”
LG Uplus plans to use prefabricated modular construction methods to shorten deployment timelines and allow flexible expansion from smaller AI projects to large-scale facilities. The company will also adopt a hybrid cooling system combining air and liquid cooling technologies, including a direct-to-chip liquid cooling solution developed with LG Electronics that improves energy efficiency by about 24 percent compared with traditional air cooling.
LG Uplus aims to secure 5 trillion won (US$ 3.5 million) in cumulative AI infrastructure orders by 2030, and expand beyond facility construction into integrated AI infrastructure operations covering GPUs, power and cooling systems.
Separately, LG Uplus’ board approved a plan to acquire 90 billion won (US$ 63 million) worth of treasury shares for cancellation and other purposes to enhance shareholder value. The company will also pay an interim dividend of 270 won (US$ 0.19) per share in 2026, 8 percent increase from the previous year.
