Nearly two dozen Korean companies specializing in the cloud took part in the establishment of the ‘Cloud Data-center Alliance(CDA).’

The council is aimed at better equipping the country’s private sector with technological advancements associated with the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’ such as artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, and the Internet-of-Things that have the power to fundamentally change the way humans live, work, and relate to one another.

The inauguration ceremony of CDA was held in Seoul on Monday, spearheaded by local cloud computing provider Innogrid, which is serving as chair this year. The council is tasked with increasing R&D as well as coming up with a framework for the smooth digital transformation of various fields involving the private, public, medical, and education sectors.

The formation of CDA goes hand-in-hand with the central and municipal governments’ initiative on Korea’s large-scale digital transformation projects that promotes growth in the industry via technology sharing.

To strengthen the country’s position in the AI boom, Korea laid out details of the first phase of the so-called “K-Cloud Project” last month, aimed at the development of locally manufactured high-speed AI chips to rival Nvidia.

In February, Korea’s ICT Ministry unveiled plans to allocate a total of 44.5 billion won (US$ 34.5 million) investments into data centers by 2025 to facilitate the integration of AI capabilities of regional universities, businesses, and research institutions.
