As a part of Asia-Pacific Cloud & Datacenter Awards 2022, W.Media, with its Awards Thought-Leadership Digital Summit, set the tone for the future of cloud and data centers in Southeast and Northeast Asia.
This time, the Summit was held virtually. Nevertheless, the debates and discussions were filled with passion.
The event kicked off with the Panel Debate: Is Cost the Biggest Inhibitor in Data Center Modernization? Often, end customers fear that once they migrate to Data Center, they’ll be stuck with their existing, on-prem hardware.
Based on a survey of 215 government and industry IT decision-makers registered for the AWS Public Sector Summit in 2020, nearly 3 in 4 respondents (74 percent) say their agency holds onto outdated data centers longer than they should. Additionally, there are issues of rising costs across every aspect of a data center.
“This is not a surprising outcome. Many top decision makers are concerned about the high cost, complexity and impact to business due to the changes. The decision to modernize your data center depends on valuation of your data center,” said Johnson Tan.
The panellists included Ian Bitterlin, Consulting Engineer, Critical Facilities Consulting Ka Vin Wong, CEO, Data Center First; Johnson Tan, Professional Engineer and Entrepreneur Adam Gibson, Global DC Partner Manager, Console Connect by PCCW Global.
This was followed by keynote from Rayson M. Lozano, APAC Business Development Manager, Socomec Energy on innovations necessary to support data center climate change and sustainability goals. Continuing on the sustainability theme, Ben Sheppard, Data Centers APAC Sales Manager, GF Piping Systems spoke on how as a specialist in cooling, GF Piping Systems can help one of the world’s fastest-growing industries develop more sustainably throughout various key project stages.
This also in line with the United Nations sustainable development goal – Responsible consumption & production – is about promoting resource and energy efficiency, and building sustainable infrastructure. It is about working smarter, not harder, to do more and better with less.
The final panel discussion was on the theme of “The Future of Cloud – Challenges and Possibilities”. With cloud adoption seeing a surge in the aftermath of the pandemic, organisations are now figuring out how to leverage Cloud in the IoT, 5G and Web3 era.
This session addressed in detail on how multi-cloud, hybrid cloud, cloud security are shaping up in the backdrop of technology’s perfect storm. The panellists included Dr Renne Barcelona, Country Cybersecurity Services Delivery Leader, IBM Philippines Siddharth Pandey, Cloud Solution Architect, Alibaba Cloud Srinivas Rao, Regional Distributed Cloud Specialist – ASEAN , f5 Incorporations and Megawaty Khie, Country Director – Indonesia, Google Cloud.
