IGIS Data Center to Strengthen South Korea’s Digital Dreams

IGIS Asset Management is set to launch a Data Centre, configured for specific end-user requirements, optimised design with a strong focus on Renewable Energy.

LG CNS is the consulting company for IGIS Asset Management, & Samsung C&T built IGIS Asset Management‘s data centre. IGIS manages $34 billion in Assets Under Management (AUM). This new data centre will be a site for self-sufficiency facilities in Hanam Misa District.

Hanam is part of the Greater Seoul area, located in the mountainous center of the Gyeonggi Province in the western central region of the Korean Peninsula. It recognises and plans various architectural restrictions according to the relevant district unit plan and Hanam City standards. Further, it also provides optimised conceptual design for scale, layout, and technology elements with modular data centre configurations that can be phased in and adapt flexibly to end-user requirements.

Hanam Misa District has geographical advantages. The data centre is close to Gangnam District, where the headquarters of major Korean companies are located, and has strengths such as hiring more workers, securing convenient transportation facilities and using various other infrastructure, explained Woo-Seop YOON, Data Center Consignment Manager for IGIS Asset Management.

It is also expected that Hanam Mass District will faithfully play its role as a network bridgehead for the Data Centre West Region, which is concentrated in the west of the Seoul metropolitan area, along with stable power supply chains and safe sites from natural disasters. The Virtual Groundbreaking Ceremony will be held on October 26th.

IGIS Asset Management Data Centre – Linkage of Future

As technology usage surges in our daily lives, data centres are assuming more significance. The strategic importance of data centers is emerging as a service that collects, stores, analyses, and provides AI, Cloud, IoT, Blockchain, Big Data, all of which are referred to as the core of the intelligent information society.

“The strategic importance of this data centre is a key technology for the development of core industrial technologies in the future and is thought to serve as an important link to the development of a future industrial society that transforms the current industry to digital,” Woo-Seop YOON, Data Center Consignment Manager for Hanam Misa District has geographical advantages. The data centre is close to Gangnam District, where the headquarters of major Korean companies are located, and has strengths such as hiring more workers, securing convenient transportation facilities and using various other infrastructure, explained Woo-Seop YOON, Data Center Consignment Manager for IGIS Asset Management stated.

To express this concept as a design element of a building, the “image of connection” will be expressed as a design through the flow of linear metal louvre vents and morphological changes in the centre, which will be a major point of architecture that can externally reveal the dynamics of connection to the future, stated Woo-Seop YOON, Data Center Consignment Manager for Hanam Misa District has geographical advantages. Salient Features

The IGIS Hanam Data centre comes with TIER-III & Rating-III levels and efficiency below normal PUE=1.4 levels. It also is equipped with a variety of capacity configurations of 5,10,15kw/Rack and redundant supply paths for infrastructure. Additionally, considering efficient power supply, one UPS and storage room per two upper floors (N+1+2 Catcher) is configured, along with All-in-one refrigerators, main heat source facilities, which are placed on the roof.

Carrier-neutral policy provides a network-neutral center environment, enabling various network services, and providing Metro NET through partnerships with leading DC operators and telecommunications operators in Korea. It offers a wide range of power layers, ranging from low power (5kw) to high power over 15kw, and provides customized top service for customer requests through flexible modular top design and professional delivery organisations.

In an effort to respond to ESG mandates, IGIS Asset Management will apply efficient utilisation techniques, waste heat recycling, and will implement eco-friendly systems by applying the latest trend cooling facilities/systems and real-time energy monitoring systems to improve air conditioning efficiency. It will also provide a hybrid cloud infrastructure environment by providing cloud specialised services.

Economy Impact

Amid the rapid development of the online economy and network infrastructure such as 5G commercialisation, investment in data centres in companies and countries is becoming a major economic focus area. The East Asian nation is also home to the fastest internet on earth and its broadband services per capita is the highest in the world.

Additionally, as data production subjects gradually shift from person to machines, due to the influence of new technologies such as AI and Mobility, the amount of data that data centres need to accommodate is increasing exponentially. Also, the speed is expected to increase sharply with IT traffic, which has increased due to COVID-19.

According to research, commercial data centres in South Korea are expected to grow at an annual average rate of 20.1 per cent and form 758 MW size based on total IT power supply from 2020 to 2023. Hanam city promotes itself as a green city within nature. In this context, IGIS’s Hanam Data Centre is uniquely placed, considering the global push towards Digital adoption.
