Huawei has reached an agreement to establish a center focused on the development of Thai workers in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing, according to Digital Economy and Society Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong.

The primary objective of this center is to train and produce 50,000 skilled personnel within a span of five years. Minister Prasert highlighted that this initiative is anticipated to generate a substantial income of 60 billion baht for these workers. Furthermore, it aims to address the shortage of AI and cloud computing professionals in Thailand and position the country as a prominent regional hub for AI and cloud technology.

Minister Prasert expressed confidence that the Huawei center could play a pivotal role in attracting more technology giants to invest in Thailand. During his visit to Shanghai, he also met with over 20 Chinese technology companies and extended invitations for them to establish their headquarters in Thailand, aligning with the ministry’s strategy to promote investments in advanced technologies that can create new revenue streams.

Chawapol Jariyawiroj, the President of Huawei Technologies Thailand, emphasized the company’s continued commitment to investing in Thailand, particularly in enhancing the skill set of the workforce. Huawei’s plans include leveraging AI across various sectors, such as government, healthcare, retail, and manufacturing.

Notably, Thailand’s Meteorological Department is exploring the use of Huawei’s Pangu-Weather model, an advanced AI model for global weather forecasting. This model significantly enhances prediction speed, reducing global weather prediction times to mere seconds.

At the Huawei Connect event, Deputy Chairwoman Sabrina Meng unveiled the company’s “All Intelligence” strategy, outlining Huawei’s ongoing efforts to delve deeply into fundamental AI technologies and build a robust computing infrastructure for China and the world. This infrastructure is designed to support a wide array of AI models and applications across various industries.

Last year, Huawei also launched “Go Cloud, Go Global” in Thailand. This initiative is part of the company’s strategic approach to enhance technology engagement with partners across 5G, cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital skill building in order to advance the digital economy.
