HGC, AMS-XI & IGC Launch a New Internet Exchange in Bangkok Thailand

HGC Global Communications Limited (HGC), an ICT service provider and network operator, AMS-IX (Amsterdam Internet Exchange), the world leading Internet Exchange (IX), and International Gateway Company Limited (IGC), a neutral regional telecommunication and network service provider, have worked together to construct AMS-IX Bangkok, a new internet exchange in Thailand, as Thailand grows becoming a significant Asian hub for the internet traffic exchange.

In addition to Singapore and Hong Kong, Thailand is a rapidly growing and significant Asian Internet hub and one of the key places where Internet companies exchange Internet traffic. The Greater Mekong Subregion’s (GMS) headquarters and gateway city of Bangkok is home to the new Internet Exchange, which intends to create a dynamic online community while also enhancing Internet connections for businesses that supply content, gaming, OTT services, cloud computing, and internet service.

Customers who connect to the new Internet Exchange will have decreased latency, improved connectivity, and increased redundancy at lower operating costs. In this GMS region, which includes Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand, about 250 million eyes can now experience an improved online environment.

Moreover, HGC also collaborates with AMX-IX to offer connectivity to its internet exchanges in Singapore, Hong Kong, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Chicago. HGC will also support the new exchange and serve as a business associate and AMS-IX Bangkok’s marketing arm. In Bangkok, IGC will offer IX infrastructure, network, and operational services.

According to Onno Bos, International Partnership Director of AMS-IX, Bangkok is ideally situated in the center of Southeast Asia, making it an excellent location as a gateway to the GMS and a global hub for the exchange of Internet traffic.

In Thailand, 80% of the population, or more than 54 million people, utilize the internet, and this number is always growing. As AMS-IX, they are excited to work with their partners HGC and IGC to advance our aim of improving internet quality all around the world by creating and establishing internet exchanges.

For Chirawat Mahawat, Vice President Greater Mekong Subregion of HGC, they are privileged to enter the Greater Mekong Subregion with their recognized partner, AMS-IX, having entered the Thailand market early. This is a crucial stage in the growth of the HGC edgeX brand as it seeks to establish itself as a premium leader in the internet exchange industry and contribute to the improvement of the interconnection ecosystem, which is reliant on the rapid progress of the digital transformation.

Furthermore, for Pichit Satapattayanont, Chief Executive Officer of IGC, in light of the Thai government’s declaration that it will serve as the ASEAN Digital Hub, they are excited to be a part of the introduction of AMS-IX to Thailand, which will support the implementation of such a digital transformation agenda.

Together with IGC’s IX and network infrastructure functioning in Thailand, AMS-IX will act as a powerful magnet to support Thai government policy. The digital ecosystem, which includes content providers, OTT, ISPs, and end users, will undoubtedly benefit from significantly better service experiences and be encouraged to attract long-term users.
