Evolution Data Centres (EDC) has recently announced a landmark joint venture agreement with Central Pattana PCL to collaborate on the development and operation of a data center facility in the heart of Bangkok.
The Bangkok data center, boasting a capacity of 34MW and a strong focus on sustainability, will be designed, built, and operated by EDC and Central Pattana. The Phase 1 of the data center is projected to become operational in the second half of 2024.
Moreover, as part of their shared commitment to environmental responsibility, EDC and Central Pattana will employ eco-friendly practices throughout the facility’s construction and operation, ensuring minimal impact on the environment.
Thailand was strategically chosen as a key market due to its flourishing digital landscape and tech-savvy population. Hence, the country’s data center sector has witnessed substantial investments from prominent international players.
In Q1 of 2023, several companies have announced plans to develop data centers in the country including NTT which invested THB 3 billion (USD 90 million) through NTT Global Data Centers Corporation for the development of its newest and largest data center in Thailand.
GSA Data Center Company (GSA) and AIS have also commenced the construction of a new data center strategically located near to Bangkok and is expected to start operating commercially in 2025.
Two Thailand-based data center operators, Etix Everywhere and Supernap, have also launched and expanded their data center powered by renewable energy to conform the requirements in terms of environmental sustainability
Moreover, two Japanese data center providers, NTT and Telehouse, have invested approximately US$164 million (equivalent to 5.5 billion baht) to establish and expand data centers in Thailand, positioning the country as among the preferred destination for data center investments in Southeast Asia
