Equinix, Inc., a leading digital infrastructure company, today announced its expansion into Indonesia and its intention to build an International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in the center of Jakarta for about US$74 million. It attempts to address rising demand for the digital services necessary for sustaining modern enterprises.
More than 10,000 of the most successful enterprises in the world, including more than half of the Fortune 500, rely on Platform Equinix’s 248 data centers spread throughout 71 metro areas and 32 countries.
In Asia-Pacific, Equinix presently operates 51 data centers, including important ones in Singapore, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea. And this new data center in Jakarta will act as a business conduit for local and international businesses, cloud & IT service providers, and network service providers.
The Indonesian government’s ambitions for digital transformation are in line with Equinix’s expansion to Jakarta, which will help the nation achieve its targets for digital infrastructure as outlined in the Indonesia Digital Roadmap 2021–2024.
The new IBX data center is situated in Jakarta’s Central Business District and close to key internet exchanges and will offer Indonesian firms and foreign businesses operating in Indonesia the digital infrastructure and lively ecosystems for top performance.
When fully constructed, the eight-story building, which is projected to offer more than 1,600 cabinets and more than 5,300 square meters of colocation space, is expected to be operational by the second half of 2024.
Moreover, the facility will be built with sustainability in mind, utilizing cutting-edge tools like cool arrays to help Indonesian firms achieve their economic and environmental objectives. This is a component of Equinix’s Future First strategy, which emphasizes the firm’s dedication to a green digital economy.
Through this expansion, Equinix will make it possible for Indonesian companies as well as foreign companies with a presence in Indonesia to use its dependable platform to link and connect the basic infrastructure that underpins their companies.
According to Jeremy Deutsch, Equinix Asia-Pacific President, the IBX data center in Jakarta will expand Equinix’s vast global network of interconnected data centers by adding a strategically significant, high-growth market.
Due to its presence in Indonesia, Equinix is able to serve international organizations wishing to access the developing Indonesian digital economy by offering the digital infrastructure necessary for local enterprises to take advantage of development prospects abroad.
“We look forward to working closely with local authorities, network providers and the broader industry ecosystem players to help unleash Indonesia’s digital potential,” said Jeremy Deutsch.
Indonesia has developed into Southeast Asia’s largest digital economy in terms of value due to fast company digitization and a sizable population with advanced digital skills. It is anticipated that Indonesia would play a significant role in regional interconnection.
With the establishment of cloud regions in Indonesia by major cloud service providers including Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Alibaba Cloud, the country is expected to overtake Singapore as Southeast Asia’s second-largest public cloud market. As a result of these trends, Indonesia now needs more capacity for digital services and data center services.
