Empyrion DC Breaks Ground with South Korean Data Center Facility

Singapore’s Empyrion DC Pte. Ltd. held a groundbreaking ceremony of its first South Korean data center facility. Located in Seocho-gu district of downtown Seoul, the 40 MW Gangnam Data Centre(GDC) is the first data center facility to be constructed in the tech and business hub of Gangnam area in the past decade.

The nine-story GDC spans across 30,714 square meters and is slated for operation during the first half of 2025. Equipped with state-of-the-art cooling system and highly efficient Building Integrate Photovoltaic Panels, sustainability will be a key strategy in the development of GDC. Mark Fong, CEO of Empyrion DC said:

We are committed to supporting our customers’ future growth and are delighted to offer sustainable digital infrastructure solutions that can meet their demand for scalability and flexibility in this region.”

GDC is Empyrion DC’s second data center project in Asia, following its acquisition of Dodid, a 12.5 MW data center facility in Singapore.

According to Research and Markets, the South Korea data center market size is projected to surpass US$6.74 billion by 2028, climbing at a CAGR of 9.89% from 2022 to 2028.

Data centers in Korea have been grabbing headlines with Intel reportedly planning to open a facility in Seoul. Also, Samsung SDS, the IT service arm of Samsung Group announced its data center in Dongtan, Gyeonggi province, the country’s first facility dedicated to high-performance computing. The data center also provides high-speed and large-capacity cloud computing services to customers who need complex operations such as AI, big data analysis and R&D tasks through Samsung Cloud Platform.
