The Spanish city of Mora in the Toledo province of Castile-La Mancha will be the home of a new 300 MW large-scale data center backed by a € 3 billion (US$ 3.4 billion) investment from the city.

This month, EdgeMode signed a memorandum of understanding with the City Council of Mora to develop the facility which will be known as DC Malpica, a high-potential data center site for Europe. Once operational, the data center will support artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and cloud services. The non-binding MoU runs for 24 months, with financing and permitting still to be secured.

The city has said it will provide institutional support, coordinate its administrative departments and back the designation of the site as a Project of Strategic Interest. Furthermore, EdgeMode aims to assist Mora in establishing itself as a key hub for AI infrastructure in Spain.

The data center will be powered by solid oxide fuel cell microgrid solutions in line with a collaboration with an unnamed provider earlier this year. This energy solution will span EdgeMode’s Spanish network and facilitate scalable deployments as the firm’s requirements expand. Moreover, EdgeMode says the solution enables faster delivery of AI data center capacity.

“This agreement marks a critical milestone in the development of one of Europe’s prime locations for data center capacity, and our collaboration with the City of Mora,” Charlie Faulkner, CEO of EdgeMode, said in a press release. “By establishing this institutional framework, we can navigate the development process efficiently while ensuring that DC Malpica delivers lasting economic value, high-quality employment, and technological advancement to the local community without compromising on environmental standards.”

“With this data center project we will be a leading town not just in Spain, but in Europe. Furthermore, I am sure that the magnet effect will work, and companies from other sectors, some of which are necessary for this project, will also come to Mora,” Emilio Bravo Peña, Mayor of Mora, said in a statement.

DC Malpica will be located close to Madrid, which has become an AI and digital infrastructure hub along with Barcelona. EdgeMode aims to establish eight sites in Spain totaling over 4.35GW of planned capacity and intends to open Tier-3-ready AI campuses in the country.

According to data from Arizton Intelligence, the Spanish data center market was valued at US$ 3.3 billion in 2025, and it is expected to grow to a value of US$ 8.83 billion by 2031 as data centers are established beyond major cities. This MoU between EdgeMode and the City Council of Mora aims to contribute to Spain’s growing appetite for digital infrastructure.
