Singapore-headquartered data center platform DayOne yesterday announced a collaboration with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to explore on-site power generation up to 1.5GW capacity to power its new data center campus in Greater Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“This partnership is our latest expansion in the Greater Kuala Lumpur region and is another proof point of our commitment to growth in Malaysia,” according to DayOne’s Linkedin post.
In August, w.media reported that DayOne has paid US$ 152.8 million cash to purchase land in Sepang which is part of Greater Kuala Lumpur.
Jamie Khoo, CEO of DayOne, said: “Together with TNB, we are exploring an integrated approach that combines on-site power generation and a battery energy storage system (BESS) directly with our data center infrastructure. This model is designed to add new capacity and enhance system flexibility that supports our growth while contributing to Malaysia’s energy resilience and long-term sustainability.”
TNB President/CEO, Datuk Ir. Ts. Shamsul Ahmad, said: “As digital infrastructure continues to expand, responsible planning becomes increasingly important to ensure new demand can be accommodated while maintaining grid reliability and supporting Malaysia’s long-term energy transition goals.”
