CyrusOne KEP, a joint venture between CyrusOne and Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (KEPCO), has started construction on its first data center in Japan. The facility, located in the Keihanna Availability Zone, is expected to provide 48MW of IT capacity to meet growing demand for digital infrastructure in the region.
The new data center, named CyrusOne KEP OSK1, will be built on a 19,693 square meter plot and feature six 8MW data halls across four floors. Construction is expected to be completed in three phases, with the first 16MW operational by Q1 2028.
CyrusOne KEP has prioritized sustainability in the design of the data center, incorporating features to minimize its environmental impact. The facility will include acoustic treatment for generators and chillers, as well as a thoughtful external architecture that blends with the surrounding environment.
The joint venture is anticipated to create significant job opportunities in the local area during both construction and operation, contributing to the development of the Keihanna region and Japan’s economy.
With a strong development pipeline, CyrusOne KEP is aiming to reach a total incoming power capacity of 900 MW within the next decade.
