The Chinese government has declared that, as of the end of October, China successfully built nearly 3.22 million 5G base stations, constituting 28.1 percent of its entire mobile base station infrastructure. This initiative is part of the nation’s comprehensive strategy to expedite the digital transformation of its economy.
In its pursuit of advancing the digital and intelligent evolution of its real economy, China has been steadily advancing the construction of its 5G network, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
As of the end of October, the three state-run telecommunications giants in China—China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom—collectively registered a substantial user base of 754 million 5G mobile phone users, as reported by the state-run Xinhua news agency.
The ministry’s data reveals that in the initial ten months of the year, the telecommunications industry witnessed an impressive 6.9 percent year-on-year increase in combined business revenue, totaling around 1.4 trillion yuan (approximately USD 197.9 billion).
Recognizing the pivotal role of 5G in steering China’s digital transformation across various sectors, it is anticipated that the number of 5G mobile connections in the country will likely surpass one billion by 2025.
